BingeBones returns with ALF's Special Christmas

I'm back! At least for a little bit. I recently hurt my knee fainting on concrete and it looks like I'm going to be in bed for awhile, so may as well spread some holiday cheer with some suggestions on what to stream!

Today, I'm looking at ALF's Special Christmas, from Season 2, episode 12 of ALF.

Episode aired: Dec 14, 1987

Runtime: 48 minutes

Director: Burt Brinckerhoff

Writers: Steven HollanderPaul, Fusco(uncredited), Tom Patchett(uncredited)
Stars:
Max Wright, Anne Schedeen, Andrea Elson

Country: USA Language: English Studio: Sony Pictures Studio
Genres: Comedy, Family, Sci-fi

The plot: The Tanners decide to spend Christmas in a cabin in the woods but ALF soon gets lost.

Here is what happens when a TV Christmas special is inspired by a real life experience where ALF visited a Make a Wish Foundation kid. You end up with one of the most baffling and depressing things to ever happen to an 80's Christmas special

"What do you say to a little girl who will never see another Christmas?" is a question that maybe a lightweight 80's sitcom doesn't need to ask.

0.4/1 Directing
0.4/1 Cinematography
0.6/1 Visual design
0.5/1 Editing
0.5/1 Plot
0.6/1 Dialogue
0.5/1 Acting
0.5/1 Soundtrack/Score/Sound
0.6/1 Originality
0.5/1 Rewatchability
Total: 5.1/10 Binge Bones

The verdict: If you're a fan of 80's Christmas specials, watch this one at least once in your life. Re-watchability will likely only occur if you need to share the baffling experience with an unsuspecting friend.

One thing that made Bob Clark's version better is that the low budget aspect of it actually contributed to the creepiness and horror. This version looks better in a lot of ways, but the polish detracts from the gritty horror that helped the 1974 version succeed better at the goal it se

The ones that we have are great, but they don't come out often enough. #gimmemoregingersnaps This film marks the first appearance of a female as a werewolf in a talkie! WTG, Nina Foch! The setting is in New Orleans, Louisiana but is very recognizable as a Hollywood backlot.  Twice-married-to Lana Turner leading man Stephen Crane is really the only actual terrible thing about this movie.
